YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Newberry Township Police officers found a live deer in the trunk of a car while conducting a traffic stop.
Police stopped the vehicle Thursday in the area of Old Trail Road and Old York Road around midnight.
The driver was suspected of driving under the influence, according to authorities.
Police say the officer noticed the deer in the back of the car. The driver and passenger of the car told the officer they hit the deer and placed it in the trunk, thinking it was dead.
They then realized the deer was still alive, however kept driving with it still in the trunk, according to authorities.
The officer had the passenger, a 21-year old York Haven man, release the deer from the vehicle. The 19 year old female driver was taken into custody as part of the DUI investigation.
